Dear chess friends: We are glad to announce the II WORLD CHESS OPEN of León, the tournament will take place from 1st to 3th of January of 2010. On Thursday the 31st of December we will organize a New year´s Eve celebration incluiding a dinner with an special price –of course the participation in this party is optional-. The first round will start at 18.00 hours and it is possible to ask for 2 byes this day (2 half points). We think that the December 24th,25th and 26th or January the 6th are more familiy days than the dates the Open will take place, and we are sure that the chess fans will be willing to enjoy these tournament days together with legendary players like the last year. The prizes are similar to the last year with the exception of the 1st prize, in other words, the prizes will be over the 30.000 euros, will be specials prizes per categories under 2350, under 2200 and under 2000, 1st 1000 € until 10 prizes. The games will be similar to the last year too, 35 minutes per player + 3 seconds per move. The 8 invited legendary players will be selected from this list: Nigel Short, Robert Hubner, Predrag Nikolic, Mikhail Gurevich, Vlastimil Hort, Boris Gulko, Oleg Romanishin, Rafael Vaganian, Yasser Seirawan, Alexander Krasenkov, Bojan Kurajica, Julio Granda and the spanish players David Recuero runner-up in the U18 European Championship, the GM Iván Salgado runner-up in the U18 World Championship, the GM Pablo San Segundo, the GM Roberto Cifuentes and the GM Elizbar Ubilava. The inscription fee is the same than the last year tournament 35€ (30€ for inscriptions before the 10th of October). The inscription fee for groups of 10 players made at the same time will be 30€ per person. The inscription fee for players under 14 will be 15€.The inscription fee for players from Castilla y León will be 30€ and 25€ for the players from León. The inscription fee will be free for players of 2400 FIDE ELO or more.
